Shaler Township Police and several surrounding police agencies have taken multiple reports of ‘Grandparent Scams’ where unknown persons are calling older residents pretending to be their grandchildren. The scammers tell the grandparent that they’ve been involved in a crash and/or been arrested and need cash to pay an attorney or bail bondsman.
If you receive a similar call, hang up immediately and try to contact your grandchild or other trusted family member.
DO NOT withdraw any money, buy gift cards, etc, to give to a ‘bail bondsman’.
