[ARCHIVED] East Elfinwild Road Closure May 20, 2021

The Allegheny County Department of Public Works plans to close East Elfinwild Road between William Flinn Highway (Route 8) and Balsam Drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, weather permitting. The closure is needed for placement of high-friction surface treatment on the road, which requires dry conditions. If it rains on May 20, the closure likely will occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 21.

You will have access to your home throughout the closure. While there will be no posted detour, drivers needing to get around the closure can take Middle Road, Burchfield Road, and William Flinn Highway (Route 8). Shaler Police will be used to control traffic.

This work is part of the bridge replacement project that began on March 16, 2020. In addition to installing high-friction surface treatment, crews will be painting lines on the roadway later this spring. That work will require only short stoppages in the work zone with traffic controlled by flaggers.

We understand that projects such as this one can be a huge inconvenience, and we very much appreciate your patience and understanding as we make necessary improvements to East Elfinwild Road. If you require additional information or have any concerns, please contact Timothy J. Rogers, Township Manager.

A couple notes:

  • The first sentence of the second paragraph is not true for the property owner at 1001 East Elfinwild Road. Access to that property will not be possible while the surface treatment is being placed in front of it.
  • Residents will not be able to access a group of mailboxes on East Elfinwild Road during the closure. That will affect those who live at 901, 902, 1001, and 3532 East Elfinwild Road. The County is working to identify the fifth mailbox number.
