Help us make this holiday season safer and “TIE ONE ON FOR SAFETY”
Some of the most dangerous days of the year on our nation’s roadways are between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. Last year, 1,068 people were killed in drunk driving crashes, which is 29 percent of total traffic fatalities during this time. That is why every holiday season from November 1st through December 31st MADD asks you to display a MADD red ribbon in a visible location to remind others to always designate a non-drinking driver.
Started in 1986, Tie One On For Safety® is MADD’s longest running and most visible public awareness project. The name comes from the phrase “tie one on,” which is slang for drinking alcohol. But at MADD they use the phrase to remind everyone that drinking, and driving don’t mix.
We are asking our Shaler Township residents to take the pledge with us and show your support by displaying a red ribbon on your vehicle this holiday season.
MADD Red Ribbons are available and being distributed from the Shaler Township Police Department located at 300 Wetzel Road, Glenshaw. Our Patrol Officers will also have a limited amount available with them in their vehicles, so just ask for one!
As part of our commitment to making Shaler Township and Pennsylvania safer this holiday season the Shaler Township Police will be focusing on impaired drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol on our roadways. Through our continued participation in the PA Buckle up program we will be able to increase patrols on Shaler roadways during the most dangerous time of the year.
AND remember help us make this holiday season safer… Have a designated non-drinking driver.
