Effective immediately, residents can now include glass in their recycling.
What has changed and why is the trash collector accepting glass now?
The processing of glass has changed in the past several years and the market has changed in recent months. At one time, the recycling of glass contaminated the other materials making them unmarketable to buyers that were located outside of the USA.
County Hauling has found new buyers for recycling materials and there is now a market for glass. The Township has asked County Hauling to accept glass in the last seven months of their contract as a courtesy to our residents.
The current refuse contract expires on December 31, 2023. If County Hauling is not the successful bidder, will the new contractor be required to recycle glass?
The Township has included glass for recycling in the new contract. If for any reason, by mutual agreement, glass can no longer be recycled by the new hauler, the Township has included a requirement that the new hauler provide a glass recycling dumpster within the Township at no additional cost.
