2018 Fall Leaf & Yard Waste Collection

During Leaf Collection for October 6 through December 2 there is no need to schedule as the entire community will be serviced for Leaf and Yard Waste Collection on the dates below: Please use Biodegradable Paper bags only. Plastic bags (biodegradable and others) are no longer to be used for leaf and yard waste collection.

Yard waste includes: leaves, garden residue, shrubbery with no dirt attached, limbs, twigs, brush and tree trimmings, and similar items but does not include grass clippings or mulch.

Yard waste must be placed in a bio-degradable paper bag.  Tree trimmings not to exceed 3 inches in diameter, brush, limbs, twigs and shrubbery must be bundled in lengths not to exceed 4 feet.

Join us for an October evening of fun and games on Saturday, October 27 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  



  • Wear your Halloween costume and participate in the costume parade at approximately 8:30 PM, costumes optional.  Prizes to be presented for various age groups.
  • Enjoy games, a hay maze and make "spooky" crafts to take home.
  • Decorate a small pumpkin, limited quantities available.  $2.00 for the pumpkin or bring your own.
  • Shaler North Hills Library will be joining in the fun with "spooky" tales and some Harry Potter wizardry.
  • S'mores:  make your own for $1.00 each.
  • Our D.J. will be belting out the Monster Mash, Ghostbusters and other season favorites.
  • This is a free event.  For planning purposes, we request that you register.

Drug Take Back Day

Saturday, October 27 from 10:00  AM to 2:00 PM
Shaler North Hills Library


The Shaler Township Police Department, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration will be assisting in our Drug Take-Back.  This will remove dangerous and unnecessary threats from the medicine cabinets and permits the proper disposal of these items. 

What type of medications can you submit at collection sites?
Any over the counter, controlled substance or prescription required drugs can be submitted.  Tablets, capsules, ointments, creams and liquids will be accepted in its packaging.  No need to take medicines out of the original package or container.  The public can submit it as is, no need to separate pills or medication in any form.

What items will not be accepted at the collection sites?
Sharpies and syringes will not be accepted due to safety reasons.

29th Annual Shaler Holiday
"Lite Up" Night

Saturday, November 17 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Shaler North Hills Library and Middle School
Mt. Royal Boulevard


Plan to join us for the celebration with Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as a cast of holiday characters.  This is an indoor and outdoor event, so dress appropriately.  Cookies and refreshments will be served.  School groups and food vendors will be in the library parking lot selling food and drinks.
 
Santa and Character Parade & Tree Lighting at 5:00 PM
Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and a cast of holiday characters after they parade down Mt. Royal Boulevard to light the tree.
 
All Activities are Free
Skating rink from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, skates available
