Police Alert – Unlocked Vehicle Thefts
Shaler Township and surrounding communities have received several reports of thefts from unlocked vehicles. Most of the recent incidents have occurred in the late evening hours and some between the hours of midnight and 5:00 a.m. The Shaler Township Police Department STRONGLY suggests that residents lock their vehicles, whether parked on the street or in the driveway, and that keys and valuables not be left inside their vehicles.
The most common items stolen are cash, credit/debit cards, purses, wallets, electronics such as GPS units, "I-Pods," and laptop computers, and music cd's. Please do not leave these items inside your vehicles.
It is also recommended that residents report suspicious activity at the time that it is occurring, by calling 911. Please do not wait until later to call 911 because police officers may be in the area and can respond quickly to check the area.
